Try one of these three methods to balance your SEO strategy.
SEO is actually a composite strategy of hundreds of different tactics, from optimizing the title tags and meta descriptions on your site to earning more positive reviews on local directories. There are infinite ways to use these tactics, in different combinations and intensities, but there are three main ways to balance all your tactics together.
In your SEO approach, you can favor one of these three styles:
- Onsite heavy. Onsite heavy optimization focuses more on the material you write on your own site. It’s a good way to optimize for more specific keywords and increase customer retention, but your domain authority won’t grow as quickly.
- Offsite heavy. Offsite heavy optimization looks toward link building, social media marketing, and local citations to build your authority. This strategy will help you generate authority quicker, helping you rise in rankings, but your site will be thinner, resulting in more bounces and exits. You may also face more difficulty optimizing for specific terms.
- Even blend. This approach strives to balance both onsite and offsite optimization in unison, earning the benefits of both approaches in one.
Advantages and Disadvantages
There’s no perfect approach here. It all depends on your goals, your available resources, and how much flexibility you have. You can always rebalance your efforts later, so if you’re uncertain, start with an “even blend” approach, and then optimize as you learn more about your brand’s position.
