The Internet is flooding with content marketers, but you’ll need to stand out if you want to succeed.

Changes in search engine algorithms and a new importance on social media and inbound marketing have made content marketing a new king in the digital marketing world. Writing engaging, compelling content for your brand on a consistent basis will build your brand visibility, increase your customer loyalty, and eventually move you up on Google’s keyword rankings.

But there’s a problem arising as more people jump on the content marketing bandwagon: the market is flooding with content. Part of the reason why inbound marketing came into the spotlight was because consumers were fed up with the amount of traditional advertising they were forced to tolerate. Will people get sick of content in the same way?

Not necessarily. If you write sales-focused, keyword stuffed content or content that basically reiterates what others in your industry have already said, then yes, people will get sick of your content and eventually you’ll stop gaining new readers and customers.

So what can you do to stand out from the competition and keep your readers engaged?

·         Take a stand on a debatable issue. Don’t dance around your position or just objectively state the facts (unless you’re a news site). Take a firm stance. Even if you alienate a few people opposed to your opinion, you’ll generate more traffic and be respected as an authority.

·         Jump on news. Take advantage of current events as much as possible, especially those that fly under the radar.

·         Offer your readers insights they wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere. For some companies this might be difficult. Think about your unique value proposition as a business, and find a way to translate that to informative content.
