Content marketing is good for SEO, but is it really enough?
If you want to improve your SEO and get higher search rankings, you need lots of high-quality content on your site. That content gives Google more pages to index, and gives you more opportunities to load important keywords and phrases into your site. It’s also a good way to improve the trustworthiness of your site—at least in Google’s eyes.
Most people add this content by optimizing their onsite pages, then producing many high-quality blog posts. But is this content enough to improve your search rankings?
Other Factors to Consider
SEO is a complex strategy, and there are dozens, if not hundreds of factors that can influence your ranking. These are some of the other factors you’ll need to keep in mind:
- Offsite content. Your offsite content also plays a role in your rankings, lending to your brand credibility and visibility. If you exclusively focus on onsite content, you’ll be missing a ton of opportunities.
- External links. Along with that offsite content, you’ll need to consider your external links. Links are the main factor Google considers when determining your site’s authority, so if you aren’t spending time optimizing those links, you won’t be able to grow.
- Technical structuring. Your site could also experience problems if you don’t have your site adequately structured. It needs to be visible and coded efficiently, or all the content in the world isn’t going to help you.
- Keyword selection and overall strategy. Finally, the strength of your onsite content will depend heavily on the keywords and phrases you’ve chosen, as well as your overall strategy. If you make bad selections, even good content can’t help you.
In other words, if you’re only focusing on content, you’ll probably see some results—but you won’t be able to boost your rankings reliably, or scale your strategy indefinitely.
