You need to have a mobile optimized site if you want to succeed.

Is your site optimized for mobile devices? If you don’t know the answer to this question, you should be a little worried. These days, the majority of online traffic comes from mobile devices, and if your site isn’t optimized for their experience, you’ll drop several rankings in Google search results–and on top of that, your users will have a lousy experience on your site.

But how can you tell for sure if your site is optimized for mobile?

Key Indicators

There are a few key indicators that can tell you if your site is mobile optimized:

  • Content availability. First, you need to make sure that all your content is available for people to see. If some of your images don’t load, or if your videos won’t play, mobile audiences will be turned off.
  • Readability. You also need to ensure that all your content is immediately readable–without the need to scroll or zoom. That often means increasing your font size and stacking it via responsive design.
  • Scrolling. Users should only have to scroll vertically to get more content on your site. Keep menus light, and focus on the scroll as the main method of interaction.
  • Interactive elements. Everything should be easy to click and interact with; mobile devices require finger-based interaction, which is clumsier than mouse-based interaction.
  • Speed. Mobile devices are slower than desktops, so make sure your site loads as quickly as possible on mobile. The faster your site, the higher it will rank.

If you still aren’t sure if your site is mobile optimized, Google offers a handy tool to let you know for sure. Just note that this can only tell you if you’ve met Google’s standards; your user experience may still be lacking.

If your site isn’t currently optimized for mobile, it’s in desperate need of a redesign. If you need help getting the responsive layout you need, or if you want further advice on how to make your site mobile friendly, contact Quez Media today!
