Creative briefs are one of the most important parts of the project planning process.
At Quez Media, when a new client reaches out to us for a quote on a brochure, a new website design, or anything in between, we always take the time to sit down and create a creative brief. In case you aren’t familiar, a creative brief is a succinct document that outlines the high-level goals of the project, along with technical requirements, so design and project management teams can work together to get the client exactly what they’re looking for.
So why are these documents so important?
- This is our first chance to set expectations, on both sides. We can start each project with a clear understanding of the nature of the project, the timeline for our work, and details like how many rounds of revision are included.
- Brand voice and image. All our creative work depends on intimately understanding your brand’s image and voice. This is our chance to get to know your company, as if we work there, so we can use that information to produce better work.
- We also need to know what your goals are for the project. This is our chance to learn, straight from you, how you define “success.” Then, we can work together to achieve it.
- Initial collaboration. This is also our first opportunity to collaborate on the project. During talks for the creative brief, we can freely exchange ideas, brainstorm together, and ultimately decide on a clear path forward.
- The mutual reference point. We also like to have a formally established document that both parties can look at for future reference. It clears up many questions—on both sides—and can prevent a project from deviating too far off course.
