Domain authority is one of the most important factors of your success in SEO, but you might not understand how or why it’s important.
If you’re new to the world of Search Engine Optimization, you may have never heard of “domain authority.” Simply put, your domain authority is a numeric value associated with the level of authority your site is given in popular search engine algorithms.
There are several different types of domain authority available, usually put out by different companies, but they all measure the same thing. Most domain authority checkers factor in the following information:
· Total number of links. This is the number of links on the Internet outside your site that point to one of your pages. The more of these you have, the better.
· Number of root domain links. This is the number of different external domains that feature links pointing to your site. Again, the more you have, the better.
· Authoritative source links. Some sites, like .edu or .gov domains, are more valuable to link from than others. These are weighted more heavily in your domain authority score.
· Popularity. This is the number of people who visit your site. The more the better.
· Relevance. Your site is seen as highly relevant if all its associated sites are in a similar industry. For instance, a solar energy company wouldn’t want links from a health food shop.
Your domain authority has no direct influence on the performance of your campaign, but it is a relative measure of how well the campaign is doing. If you’re consistent with both onsite and offsite content, your domain authority will rise and it is likely that your keyword rankings will rise along with it.
