Despite the many changes and advancements of search engine algorithms, there are still some basic mistakes that many people constantly make.
Old school practices of search engine optimization are all but obsolete, but that doesn’t stop people from staying stuck in the same old school mindsets. With Google making regular changes to its search algorithms and doing its best to squelch the practice of SEO entirely, it becomes important to stay ahead of the curve and take actions that will help you rank for tomorrow, rather than for today.
If you’re still making these five SEO mistakes, it’s time to reassess your strategy and start planning for the future:
1.      Writing articles around one or two keywords. While it’s perfectly acceptable to keep a few keyword phrases in mind as you generate topics for new articles, remember they should be an inspiration for your subject rather than a basis for your sentence-level structure.
2.      Ignoring social outlets. Onsite and offsite used to mean blog posts and permanent offsite links, but the importance of social media in search rankings is growing and becoming more complex. The health and popularity of your social channels are now seen as major facets of your overall online identity—take advantage of them.
3.      Backlinking the old way. Making an insightful comment with a link to your page isn’t going to cut it anymore. Instead, cite your brand name specifically as an authority objectively, and provide evidence in the form of links.
4.      Forgetting images and videos. Search engines love all kinds of content. If you’re only doing written posts, you’re missing out.
5.      Not posting everywhere. To get the most impact, make sure you take advantage of guest posts, press releases, and any other opportunity to get your name out there for free (or cheap).
