Batman, the world’s greatest detective, is a leading comic book icon—but what can you learn from him about marketing?
It’s Batman. If you don’t know who he is, the introduction probably won’t help you much anyway. With physical stamina, improvisational intelligence, dexterity, and a host of mini-gadgets, Batman is one of the most efficient and respected crimefighters in the DC universe. And he’s going to teach us a little something about marketing. You read that correctly.
So let’s break this down a little bit, and examine the five major marketing tips you can learn from the dark knight:
1. Keep evolving. Batman has a lot of gadgets and gear, but it never stays the same. He’s always upgrading, changing, and adjusting the gadgets he has on hand in order to be excellently prepared for any situation. You should change your marketing strategies accordingly.
2. Know your enemies. Part of Batman’s efficiency as a superhero comes from his meticulous preparedness. Like Batman knows his archenemies, you should get to know your competitors as well as you possibly can.
3. Have a backup plan. Batman never gets caught without a backup plan. No matter how badly things turn out, there is always an alternative line of action he can call upon. Similarly, you should always be prepared with a new course if things go awry.
4. Use your name. Wayne Enterprises is known throughout Gotham City because it has a powerful brand presence. Make sure your name is tightly associated with all your products and services to perpetuate a positive reputation.
5. Trust selectively. Not just anyone can be Robin. Be careful who you let onto your marketing team.
