Google Page Experience is coming, and you need to be prepared.

Those of you with search engine optimization (SEO) experience understand that Google likes to shake things up from time to time. In the past, we’ve covered updates like Panda and Penguin – which completely overhauled the way Google evaluates onsite content and links in a totally unexpected way, with no advanced notice. So it’s not every day that we get explicit warning that a major update is coming.

That’s precisely what we have with Google Page Experience.

Google Page Experience in a Nutshell

Last year, Google formally announced that it was going to roll out a new ranking signal called Google Page Experience. Essentially, this means that Google will soon consider the user experience (UX) of your site as a major factor when determining how to rank you for various queries. The better your webpage UX is, the higher you’re going to rank.

Google Page Experience includes a variety of different individual considerations. For example, it’s going to take into consideration things like largest contentful paint (LCP), first input delay (FID), and cumulative layout shift (CLS). It’s also going to evaluate whether your website is mobile friendly, how quickly it loads, and other factors that have been considered in the past.

Fortunately, Google was proactive with this update. It hasn’t yet completely rolled out, but it’s coming soon. That means this is your last chance to make changes to your website to prepare for the update – and avoid the possibility of losing your top spot in the SERPs.

How to Prepare for Google Page Experience

The best way to prepare for Google Page Experience is to improve the UX of your website. That means:

  • Ensure your website is optimized for mobile.
  • Get rid of any intrusive interstitials.
  • Improve loading times.
  • Improve the speed of interactivity with your website.
  • Invest in an SSL certificate/HTTPS.
  • Improve the safety and security of your website.
