Web traffic doesn’t mean anything if you can’t get your users to stay, so incorporate these features to encourage stickier visitors.

The design of your website makes a difference. Incoming visitors usually give your site a once-over before determining, whether consciously or subconsciously, to leave or stick around for more information.

Unfortunately, there are no perfect solutions in design. What works for one industry may not work for another in the same way that an offer that works for one person may not work for a different demographic. Still, there are a handful of website elements that can encourage your visitors to stay and venture deeper into your site:

1.       An easy navigation. People should know exactly where you want them to go, immediately upon entering the site. If they don’t know where to go or what to do, even for a second, they’ll probably leave.

2.       Open space. Clutter is a bad thing, no matter what your industry is or who your target audience is. You definitely need some content and images to anchor your visitors and show off your brand, but open space is easier on the eyes and is more conducive to a prolonged stay.

3.       Minimal advertising. While it’s tempting to include sales pitches all over your site, users are turned off by such blatant advertising. Provide content, value, and information above anything else.

4.       Visual examples. Give your users a good sense of what you do. If you have an e-commerce site, that means lots of images. If not, it means showing a portfolio or at least displaying a testimonials section.

5.       Flexibility. Users could be accessing your site from any browser, and from any device. Make sure your site is optimized for mobile to ensure a seamless visit no matter what.
