You need a “good” website, but what does that really mean?

In our modern, digital world, one of your greatest business assets is going to be your website. Every business owner knows they need a “good” website to be successful, but what does that really mean?

There are different definitions to play with here, but ultimately, you have four main priorities to accomplish:

  1. Demonstrate your brand. First, you need to make sure you demonstrate what your brand is like. You’ll need to include the imagery, colors, and voice that make your brand unique and differentiate it from the competition. Without that first step, your customers won’t be able to readily identify or interact with you.
  2. Be memorable. Your site also needs to be memorable. If someone stumbles upon it randomly, they should be served with a unique enough impression that they remember your name and come back for repeat purchases.
  3. Be informative/entertaining. On some level, your site should be informative, entertaining, or both. If a user comes to your site, and walks away with no new knowledge and no new experiences, they may never come back again. Make sure to provide your users with ample content and things to interact with.
  4. Funnel users toward an actionable goal. Finally, you need to make sure you include some actionable target for your users; for example, if you sell products in an online store, the end goal would be getting them to purchase a product. Your site needs to be able to secure these conversions, or you won’t be able to generate revenue.

You can accomplish these priorities by choosing the right design, making sure your site is accessible and functional, and eventually promoting your site—but if you fail in any of these priorities, you may not be successful in your online marketing campaign.
