Chris Beecham’s project Awful Reviews got an unexpected boost this week after becoming a viral web hit. Beecham, a 35-year-old film fan, put together a series of spoof movie posters that, instead of showing normal cover quotes, instead feature the worst comments he could find online.

His cover for James Cameron’s Avatar, for example, reads as, “A tree hugger’s, anti-carbon footprint, share your toilet paper, environmentalist’s dream.” The project has quickly gathered fans, amassing 1,000 Facebook likes, 12,000 Tumblr followers, and 7,000 followers on Twitter.

When it comes to your company, this is the type of hype you would love to have your name associated with — especially for SEO purposes. When your company’s website is connected to fresh and trending information that users might not be able to get in many other places, Google’s algorithm sees your website as more “relevant” to users and gives it a higher search rank accordingly.

You may not have a clever idea for fake movie posters, but there are other ways to give your business a boost. Here are three tips for marketing your company if you want your website to get a higher rank, and a lot more visitors.

1. Why a Professional SEO Agency Can Help
How much time can you really afford to spend on advertising your website? The answer is, probably not a whole lot. Instead of learning how to search optimize your content from scratch, hire a company to do it instead. Why? They’ll know all the ins and outs of what content to post, and where to post it. Many internet advertising agencies, for example, create engaging infographics for their clients.

2. Blog Like You’ve Never Blogged Before
Would you say that, fairly often, at least several of the Google search results you receive come from blogs? It shouldn’t be surprising to learn that when companies blog 20 to 50 times a month, they receive 45% more web traffic on average. It’s worth noting, too, that blog posts are 63% more likely to influence purchase decisions than a magazine. In other words: create a great blog, update it frequently, and you’ll see a positive change in your website’s ranking. If you’re not good at blogging, leave it to the internet advertising agencies.

3. Say Goodbye To Outdated Web Design
Are you the guy who sneaks popcorn bowls into the theater because they give you unlimited refills? It’s time to stop doing the same thing with your website. The online web design you used in 2007, and again in 2010, and now in 2014, needs to be put to rest. Once people do get to your site through SEO efforts, better web design is what keeps them there. Look for website design agencies that have years of experience.
