If you’re looking for some direction in the world of marketing for manufacturers, consider these helpful first steps.

Manufacturers face many common marketing challenges. First, they’re usually B2B marketers without a clear definition of a target demographic. Second, they struggle coming up with a unique brand voice that distinguishes them from the competition. Third, they often face a severely restricted budget that can hinder any marketing efforts they think to take.

Even with these popular issues, manufacturers can get started in the marketing world fairly easily. Whether the company has been around for 100 years or just starting out, these first marketing steps can help any manufacturer get on the right track:

1.       Firmly establish your brand. If you don’t have a set of brand standards, get some. First and foremost. Without a consistent brand, any marketing strategy you attempt to build runs the risk of falling flat.

2.       Coordinate a main channel. What do you want to focus on above all else? Find a primary strategy that falls in line with your goals and your budget, and start setting some targets for the months to come. Example strategies include a dynamic web presence, a customer enrollment program, or a printed advertisement campaign.

3.       Strengthen your complementary channels. For example, if you’re building out a digital marketing strategy, make sure you invest some time and money into search engine optimization and social media marketing. Find cheap, minimally intensive ways to strengthen and enhance your main strategy and funnel your unique leads through a similar experience.
